I'm on a Quest

 Part of Rovering is questing, and I'm on a quest to bring Rovering to more people. In do doing I've been creating promitional stuff in anticipation of formally recruiting others. This includes brochures and displays I'll put on a table in a booth or another venue. I was thinking I would get pins for those who apply to R4LA on the spot!

I would also have water and treats on the table, along with paperwork stuff. The next step is deciding where I'd want to set up a recruiting table.

In this process I've created charts. One to compare some traits between scouting associations when it comes to adult scouting, and one showing a basic layout of the R4LA traditional scouting progression program.

Rovering is Fantastic

 Rover scouting is an epic journey, a constant quest of self-reliance and service. Scouting in general is a grand brotherhood and sisterhood of people looking to improve themselves through the scouting method, including uniform and visual rewards, a patrol system, the Oath and Law, etc.

However, something I've never seen presented throughout the scouting programs I've been exposed to is a more fantastic take on what scouting feels like. From what I've seen, the closest scouting ever came to combining its adventurous spirit with wonderful artwork was Norman Rockwell's paintings depicting scouts in the BSA. I've never seen other associations use official, original artwork to promote scouting, at least not in recent memory. 

With that in mind, and in my quest to promote Rover scouting, I've begun a series of digital paintings I intend to use to promote R4LA and the spirit of the Rover Knight. These will be used in both physical and digital mediums to promote Rovering.

Robert Baden-Powell described a Rover's challenges like dragons, and like St. George of old, we must face our challenges and problems with a smile and without hesitation. This painting features a young woman in Rover uniform charging at a dragon the viewer can't see save for its shadow looming over our heroine. She holds her sword up, ready to strike. This was such a fun painting to do, and I look forward to making more of these Rover-themed pieces.

The Rover Adventure Continues!

Late last year I discovered I was pregnant, and even with the awful morning sickness that came with it, I was able to pursue my Practical Training Strip a bit at a time. The PTS includes things like lashings, knot work, working camp and hiking knowledge, and First Aid. I am First Aid certified now, and a few weeks ago I was able to demonstrate my knowledge of cleaning up camp and learning ax work. The only thing I have left for my PTS is the 16 mi, 1 night overnight hike, which I won't be able to complete until next year.

One of the proficiencies for PTS is practicing good health. I took this on as a Quest, and upon receiving confirmation from my mentor, I have completed my first Quest as a Knight!
